Plaxo

8 11 2004

Plaxo logoAbout one year ago, I learned about Plaxo program which primarily storing your address book and as well as notes, calendar, etc which is similar to Outlook features. I installed Plaxo add-on into my Outlook at home which is my primary PC. It does all of its “sync” between my Outlook and Plaxo website regularly.

I decided to upload entirely my address book into Plaxo and let it sort itself such as name, email, address, phone, IM, etc but what’s best thing about it. It would tell me which email address are bad or bounced. It was like 200+ of them, I went ahead and delete them all at once. It also gives me ability to merge with another address book like Yahoo, Palm, Outlook, etc. – I think it’s awesome.

Right now, I have approximately 25% of my address book joined as Plaxo member and rest of them don’t want to be bother with it or doesn’t understand how it works. I don’t mind as long as it’s still on my list.

That’s all? No – it give me ability to email to my entire contact list (address book) and ask them for update or join as Plaxo member. Of course, it’s free. They also have $20 a year for faster customer service but I did fine at my own. I am currently on Plaxo 2.0 and I’ve heard that Plaxo 3.0 will be even better and possibly will not be free.

Recently, I decided to reformat my PC due to stupid spyware. I did back up everything before I did format. Unfortunately, I forgot to back up my Outlook address book but thank goodness I have one at Plaxo – didn’t lose anything. I was able to export it into Outlook with no problem. It’s neat!!

I was able to import address book (vCard format) into my Open Webmail account (used it for travel purpose) & Yahoo and it works like charms.

One more thing, few people refused to install Plaxo because they heard it may be spyware. Fortunately, they’ve proved that it is NOT spyware in this program at all. David Coursey from eWeek.com wrote very good article about it. (See link bottom) If you search “Plaxo” in Google, you may see some of the website that do not support it.

Now, it is time for you to give it a try.

Plaxo, thank you for wonderful product!

Grant,

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review!

Just wanted to make one clarification: Plaxo is committed to offering a free version of its core service. We’re rolling out some really cool NEW services (a duplicate contact remover, WAP access, and more), some of which aren’t free, but these are icing on the cake. Actually, you and other current Plaxo members can try these premium services free for a limited time by joining the Plaxo Beta Program at http://www.plaxo.com/beta :)
Anyway, thanks again for your great write-up, and take care.

Regards,
Adam

I like Plaxo too.
Unfortunately, due to company policies, I’m not able to install the Plaxo sync plugin. Which kind of limits it’s use tremendously.

I’m not sure if there is a work around
