Whose Life Is It Anyway?

How do you feel when your employer asks you to quit smoking within 15 months or you are fired?
I was amazed that many employers are doing it for variety reason. There’s another story that a guy got fired by Anheuser-Busch/Budweiser because he’s drinking Coors. Geez!
It made me wonder if many employers are doing it same thing to avoid hiring disabilities and deaf people. Sigh…

Wow! That was something new to learn. It does piss me off that work policies are monitoring our personal lives. But then again, haven’t workplaces been doing that with random drug testing?
They all say it’s due to healthcare insurance and costs. So, if we have our own insurance, will they back off or not?
I agree with that smoking has now become a moral issue…that is assuming that those who smoke are “bad” people.
But smoking wasn’t the only issue mentioned in this article. There were people fired for drinking beer of another brand, displaying a political bumper sticker, etc. Ok, let’s fire people who are fat, who ride motorcycles or bike to work(dangerous and risky) or get STD’s. Silly, isn’t it?
We do have rights! Alas, the article says that we don’t in some states. Sigh…
Larry,
You got that right!
Weight issue is not new. Some place like Hooters or airline industry continued hiring thin women otherwise they will get into trouble. Ack!
Fortunately, we do have civil right protection but it is gray line between employer right and our right.
I am starting to see why many employers aren’t hiring deaf people. Only way — start your own business! You can see why alot of oriental people are always into their own business.
Hmmm
