Now, if Ms. Fernandes does not perform satisfactorily as president beginning in 2007, then it is the Board's responsibility to take care of that and maybe even "un-hire" her if it is serious enough. The students and Faculty Senate can do whatever they want to do in the Fall as long as they don't become too nasty or violent or dosrupt too much. It is their right to free speech, but there is a limit to what that means. The complain about Ms. Fernandes being "unfit" for the job because of her unpopularity was not enough for the Board to select one of the other two finalists. Mr. Stern apparently was the surprise finalist because he did not meet a couple of the basic requirements. I'm sure you know about that? The Gallaudet student body and faculty have had some unpleasant experiences with Ms. Fernandes, I guess, but they did not have an official vote on the Board. The Board had to act on which finalist bad the BEST "paper" qualifications, plus actual post-secondary administrative experience. That was Ms. Fernandes. Now, can she do the job? Wait and see. As for faculty resignations because of Ms. Fernandes being the new president, I don't believe there will be very many DEAF ones leaving. Gallaudet is too comfy and prestigious for them to want to go anywhere else. Your best bet now, is to wait and see how well or how badly she does as the ninth president of Gallaudet University. Make sure the Board is paying attention! Yes, I believe it is over insofar as the final selection is concerned. She deserves a chance from gallaudet community that she can prove them wrong or right. She is the one who brings all community together and bring up all issues that need a lot of attention. To my understand, she will take them seriously and hope that she is going to do something about it which I believe that she will. she have my faith 100%. I understand that she is from Hawaii and she also work for Jordan King. I am sure that committees (hearing and deaf) use their wisdom to choice someone who have excellent experience and running better suit for Gally. Maybe I am wrong. Which important? Personal or Busisness? I except that lady help improve students get better grade and be successful graduation. Since there are low amount students made to earn degree. Sure, president also need good communicate and socialable with student and facuty but I don't have idea why. ha.
