Does TV Wonder Pro support CC? Yes and No.
1 11 2006I know many people record TV or movies show and watch it later or even put it up on internet. Only bad thing about it, it doesn’t support closed captioning. Permanently.
Last week, I purchased low-end TV capture card called TV Wonder Pro – Remote Control Edition. It’s very nice and it’s only $69 bucks. Closed captioning works just fine during the live show but not after it’s record and watch it later.
Also, I purchased ATI All-In-Wonder video card more than five years ago. I was surprised not whole things improved since then. I noticed it has new feature called Video Magazine. With this feature, I can create “text” only transcript during the recording or not but this is best thing we can get out from TV capture card.
I wonder if we can put video (mpeg or avi) and text (transcript) together by using Subtitle workshop or maybe use Google Video where it support CC thru separated file. I think it is possible, then it is time consuming to adjust time for each sentence thoroughly transcript. Ugh.
ATI (now under AMD Company) knew about CC limited for years. I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t attempt to make it better and more options related to CC. I did googled around and find very little information.
Do you know if there’s a way to burn CC on video permanently? Maybe I should use different hardware that will allow burn-in CC on video or at least it will support CC after recording.
I found these information from ATI FAQ website.
Q6: When the close captioning feature is turned on, does the text get "overlayed" over the video?
A6: You have 2 choices on how the close captioned text is displayed. It can be "overlayed" over the video like on a TV, or in a separate window.
Q7: Can I capture the Closed Caption text?
A7: Yes. You can capture the text only, or select "Video Magazine" option that also captures stills at a set interval for creation of a "Video Magazine".

Hi,
I have ATI HD Wonder myself. You can play back closed caption on PC.
The video compression must be ATI not WMV or MPG etc. The .ATI file will include video and caption in same file. You need to go to the settings. Try it.

Maybe I should get ATI HD Wonder instead this one?
I didnt see ATI format as optional in it? Hmmm….
For these recorded TV shows and movies that you can download off the Internet, you can often find subtitles for them on the Internet.
Just do a search. Use terms like “DIVX subtitles”, “XVID subtitles”, etc.

For me, I use EyeTV 200, it works great just like on tv and able to recording any programs with cc. I am able to burn to DVD and play back including CC. However you gotta have a mac to run it. You can check it out elgato.com. Some model do support CC and some dont. Well, I cant be much of help when you have the PCs.
