RE: Self Expression via Vblog

14 01 2007

This is my vlog response to Oh I See Blog - RE: Self Expression via Vblog - click here

Basically, I mentioned that I like both formal and non-formal vblog. I really love Amy’s vblog – she’s simply amazing. Not just special effects… but she has beautiful smile, too.

All vlogger should make every effort to improve their own vblog but of course it is not required. One of the biggest challenge to keep video maintain high quality is keep your room well-lighted. If you doesn’t have many light in your room, consider invest $10 lamp or something better. Believe it or not, it will make the difference.

In my case, it is non-formal but maybe it is between non-formal and formal because I do included title, URL address and date. If you notice in some of my older videos, I didn’t look really nice like t-shirt, etc. So, I try to make it little better every time.

Sometime, my dog bothered me while I am talking to webcam. He thinks I am weird or something. Hehe… Other things look like my glasses doesn’t have anti-reflect in it which cause reflect horribly front of monitor. I have no choice but remove it while I am talking to webcam.

Note: In case you wonder what software I primarily use for my vblog — I use Logitech ImageStudio which can be found at Logitech website. Click here to download ImageStudio 7.3 - Enjoy!

Interesting about the glasses. I’ll have to test mine and see if that is a problem or not.

Hey, Definely should use anti glare lenses. I am an licensed optician and myself deaf. Anit reflection/glare is definely best for anyone who want to use Vlog. You can keep your frame, just replace anti glare lenses. Not much cost

Awww…. SMILING!!!

What I did was very simple - I used a torchiere lamp - halogen lamp (it is a tall lamp with upside down shade to bring the light to the ceiling) and a small clip-on lamp on the shade for a spotlight. I’m short (yeah! so what?) and it helps tho.

I wear anti-glare glasses which helped a bit. It is important that you don’t let the light shine on your face. Doing vlogging on the computer - will bring light to your face so it is kinda hard… and you may want to dim down your monitor brightness to help to reduce glare.

Background is very important — get any kind of dark-colored sheet and have it hang. The best kind of fabric you could use is velvet type (high quality) because it absorbs light the best and brings you and your hands out so well. You can buy either black or dark maroon depending on your skin color. (I would suggest u to invest blue or green velvet fabric too if you want to experiment the chroma key effect… but that is another issue here..)

Software - start with Windows Movie Maker - it is very easy to follow, for the Mac users - the iMovie is wonderful! The more confident you are with basic editing, then you can upgrade to more complicated software.

I started with my PC with Movie Maker and then, I bought Sony Vegas software ( I love it…easier than Adobe Premiere) until my friend cajoled me to buy iMac. I was extremely hesitant but gave in to treat myself one during holidays. The wisest decision I’ve ever made!!!!

The gist of this posting - start small, plan ahead and enjoy! Yes, time consuming! I noticed based on my experience that one minute of video footage equals to one hour of process/editing/rendering/compression and uploading. If you are careful or first timer- it will go up to 3 hours, but honestly - with experience, it will be much faster.

For novices - if you have a webcam (for some cameras who allows video capacity with computer) - that’s all you need, and go to http://www.youtube.com - register if you haven’t done that. Then click - upload videos. They’ll ask you to fill in some information about your videoclip, and press the button called “Quick Capture”. On that page, they will seek for your webcam, and you press the little window to start capturing.

Sign away! Sign your thoughts! Express thyself!

Click end… then youtube will do the rest. you cannot do editing on that process. It is for impromptu signers.

Think about how you dress, the lighting, the background and you are set!

I want more vloggers joining the bandwagon.

Thank you,
Amy Cohen Efron

I have had hard time seeing the vp screen with my glasses on with the lights on shining on my face. I guess I would have to wear RX sunglasses, hee hee.
I enjoyed your vlogs except watching out for your pet snake crawling behind you, yikes!
