Vlogger & Blogger: Code of Ethics
5 02 2007
I’ve enjoyed the wonderful webcast streaming video from Vlogger & Blogger Conference last Saturday. (2/03/07) Even I missed some of them, I already looking forward videos online that I missed once it’s become available.
I don’t know if anybody mention “Blogger: Code of Ethics” during the conference. I added one for my blog two years ago but I forgot to add link on front page in case anybody concern about my "policy."
To look at more detail about it. Click here (Charlene Li’s Blog)
Read my Code of Ethics for my blog. I did mentioned about it in January 2005. Click here
Blogger Code Of Ethics
- We will tell the truth. We will acknowledge and correct any mistakes promptly.
- We will not delete comments unless they are spam, off-topic, or defamatory.
- We will reply to comments when appropriate as promptly as possible.
- We will link to online references and original source materials directly.
- We will disagree with other opinions respectfully.
Note: I probably will change/update over times.
What do you think? Should you add disclaimer or code of ethics for your own blog site? Why or why not?
UPDATED 2/05/07 : One more reference link where I got my code of ethics from - click here. Thanks Anonymous!

Well, I just found out that the statements you made came out exactly in the GM blog. They either copied it from you or you from them since there is no date on their blog. http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/about.html

If you actually copied from GM blog then I find it inappropriate for you to preach without practicing since you did not make a reference other than Charlene Li’s Blog. It is a GM’s blog and you could get your ass sued unless you actually wrote this first before them.
I believe ethics were brought up. We should add it. Thanks for sharing.
Hello
I always enjoy read your blog…
I agree what you said about code of ethics…
Keep up good work
I have to agree with the idea of having a code of ethics for bloggers. Granted, there are a lot of good bloggers that have their own ethics and follow them excellently as Mishka Zena and Mr. Sandman do for two examples. However there are certain bloggers drunk on their own power and that is what mainly concerns me. Sometimes passion is great in certain times for example, the Gallaudet protest, but in other times, brains need to be used before passion if you get my meaning.
I have my own blog and I do research and even nit-pick on resources to ensure that they are appropriately informative before publishing my articles. I admit I may be dry compared to other bloggers, but I prefer to be accurate than to slander people.
Yes there are individuals and companies that deserve to be written about especially if they have caused damage or violations, I admit. But I would say one should be professional about it, giving good information, referrances and perhaps solutions instead of saying “off with their heads!’ as the Heart Queen said in ‘Alice in the Wonderland.”
I would like to see if Deafread can set up a code of ethics for all bloggers registered with Deafread.com. Just my two cents.
Anonymous,
Thanks for bring it up. That’s one I was looking for. I like their Code of Ethics because it is very simple and straight.

Wolfers,
It is very good idea. Someone already made comment that I shouldn’t copy from another blogsite (it’s started) but again maybe we can come up our own Code of Ethics ourselves. We can do it right here…
Grant,
Thanks for helping to take the lead on this effort. We can actually look at what has already been posted out there and share this information with each other to ensure high quality blogs from the deaf community. One good example is:

I just posted my presentation for the V/Blogging Conference, which covers issues related to “code of ethics” on DeafDC at:

You will see my presentation on the CCI website when they post the video on their website.
