You can always use your laptop. Just buy a extra $20 keyboard. You would have wordpad program running and use big fonts so both of you can use it. You type on laptop and hearing type on the extra keyboard very simple to do if you already have laptop.

Thanks for updated! I guess it is ideal for Deaf professional producer, lawyer, web master, distributer so on who can afford expensive for large business or numberous of people in the building.

For us like one time or once in a while then it will be better using is paper and pen or PIM, old laptop. Nothing serious for us unless it is good for useful for lot of times!

A case in example, one deaf professional used the UbiDuo more than 500 times with hearing people who run/own a business in order to do business with them. Besides, there are more deaf people out there than Deaf people. It's a device that can be used by those who are deaf or voice-impaired.

7e7, I suggest you do a bit more research and your pre-conceived notions on what works and what doesn't work. The UbiDuo was already a smashing success at the Deaflympics at the four hotels where they have helped accomodate hundreds of deaf people attending the event. The hotel management was extremely thankful that they had the opportunity to use the UbiDuo.

Next, the communication device is actually smaller than your typical computer laptop. Both together weighs about 6 pounds. Not exactly heavy by any stretch of the imagination. But at any rate, cost could be an issue for some but not all. Especially for businesses who are likely to cater to deaf people.

Thank you Grant for showing the device to us. I had been wondering what it looked like. I know its too expensive. I agree with Ze7 about the Cons and Pro. I beleive they will be covered with dust and spider webs after not being used.

Michele,
Do you want to know about Pros and Cons? In my opinions
I believe UbiDuo has many Cons than Pros because it is too heavy for carry, too big to put where, how, like police stand up to talk with you! Resto at fastfood there is no room for UbiDuo because they have cashiers, food tray and serve foods. Too HIGH price for low end tech! Other reason Cons - big machine and small screen compare with laptop has big screen and thin slim.
I believe when people first time to purchase and exciting with it for a while and they will tired of it because too heavy to carry, I bet it will rare to using it for $1800. Why dont you buying old used laptop for $100 for communication purpose, open program like Text Edit or NotePad for typing with your hearing person.

I'm not rich to buy that device. When my cousin Renee who has been traveling with her laptop meets with me, she could communicate with me via AIM using her laptop and I use my Sidekick II. Its pretty cool.

Grant, will you buy it for yourself? What are the pros and cons of Ubi Duo? Would it come in handy if you get stopped by the police, will they be happy to type on Ubi Duo while standing in front of your car when they are talking to you? Some people are illiterate when it comes to typing, is Ubi Duo user friendly for people who cannot type very well? Why is the price so high?? Can deaf people use only one Ubi Duo when placing an order in a fast food restaurant or they must use two in order for it to work? Can you type on Ubi Duo while laying down, e.g. if you are at the hospital on the bed?

Thank you for the demo of Ubi-Duo
but they cost almost 1k800 qty 2 that too much
I wish they could cost only $600 for qty 2
but compare the Ameriphone Q-90D Digital TDD/VCO cost 219 that also work with 2.5cable plug in each other work as well to type text as like normal phone but this is not wireless so a little different and it work
between deaf/hearing.

would Ubi-Duo make the price drop as 600 within qty 2 then I would buy :)
who shall make deal with them ? shall you discussing with them in my option of price for view of reasonable to drop price.

hope I hear from you again
