When I was in Puerto Rico, our deaf group was riding in a church van that said something like “…Iglesia Baptista del Sordos” (…Baptist Church of the Deaf). Anyway, I lipread 2 people who were looking at our van and they said, “Sordo Muto” which means Deaf Mute. Interesting. Thanks for sharing your vlog.

Wwowowow!! Good for your father!! I am Deaf. Medical professionals still use “hearing impaired” and “she can lipread” (true) on my medical chart. It is better than deafmute! Everyone is unique with unique preferences. smile

I don’t blame your dad….When I was younger, my mom said that the audiologist was being clod for bawling at her for letting me take off my hearing aid each day I got home from school.

I understand what you mean.. I don’t like to say mute.. Mute mean can’t talk..
Dumb is mean lacking the power of speech , silent and stupid.
I would say remove mute if you can talk that is fine… i know many people really sometime insult to deaf and mute…They don’t know what mean different between words dumb and mute is different ..
I am glad you can say something to remove mute.. I guess some doctor are dumb too!!

I would not get upset or cry if my doctor wrote “deaf-mute.” When seeing me for the first time, the doctor wrote, “deaf-mute.” He was impressed with my ability to read and write even though I am deaf-mute. I would not cry if a nurse puts on my wrist a bracelet spelling out “Deaf-Mute. Use pen and paper to communciate with Jean Boutcher.” Once nurses and doctors see my bracelet, they would grab pen and paper instead of talking talking talking to the wall.
