Once that night I used my verizon cellphone, I am deaf but I barely catching their voice. I knew GPS wouldn't work thru 911 answering station. It took me 27 minutes waiting for the police to show up my house. Because I left the door open that night. I left the house by the time at 5:45pm and I arrived home saw the opening door by the time of 11:15PM ....I tried to speak with the 911 representative. And I told her that I am deaf and unable to hear what you are saying in full exaggerated sentences. I only need simple maybe 4 words speak normally so I can hear clearly with my hearing aids. So, I was nervous about the door was open.. My deaf friend is next to me by sitting in the car and locked all doors. I turn off the engine and headlights. Waiting for the police to show up. And the 911 rep wants to know where is my address located because I am using cellphone So I had to speak up with my location address. So, the police showed up in after 27 minutes while I was on the cellphone. I explained to the police by voice and sign language by the same time. And the 2 police officers were carry their flashlights and guns and entered the house and checking around the house to make sure there is no intruder. I was so nervous and my heart was pounding hard as I ever imagined!! My deaf friend was nervous too. I was thankful that my house is secured.. Oh God! WHEW I am safe and the police wave with his flashlights toward us .. So I came toward the police and the police noticed there is no stealing or any access in here. I am so relieved! It wasn't safe neighborhood as I knew well about in my home area.

So, I thought you would know about my able of speaking and hardly to hear the cellphone. There is no texting device for 911. I had to use videophone for it. And also I dont have tty. I just have to go and drive to the store and tell them if needed to call the police right away if anything happens!!!

I spoke with Verizon phone company and ask about 911 program into my texting along with 911. I have worked with 911 program in CSDHH in Seattle, WA and I have trained people how to use TTY program. I knew all about it. Sometimes they are unable to detect tty connection in their 911 answering TTY.. They are not trained in your state. I would suggest for all of us to make the arrangements why 911 answering station is unable to use Text by cellphone and TTY answering situation. We have to inform them as well. Why not make that yourself serious situation for 911 Deafies to use via text!!!! without using my voice and I hardly hear them speak to me. It is not right!!! We gonna do something!!! Hire a hearing interpreter with you and go into the police station and find about FEEDBACKS to let them know to improve their reach with deaf people by using TEXT 911 by cellphone. You can explore it into the internet and find out which location and what rightful person to contact with. As courts or Rights of disability beliefs something like that.

Need 911? Call using your videophone to Sorenson. Then they can take the call without any waiting and connect you to nearest 911 center in your community.

I can see your problem... I was wondering the same thing... as I watch your vlog.. I came up with a idea.. I don't know if it will work... more and more deaf people start use a cell phone but use text message to commutation with others.. but i am sure you can use phone on sidekick or other device... They should let you have free minutes on it so you can act like hearing person... but just dialing 911 and leave it alone.. and they will use their computer system to find where you are.

Hi Grant,

I have that problem, too.. I went to the police station and ask some questions about that.. The policeman said that I can just dial 911 on sidekick phone, not the text one and they will use the GPS and will locate us. I was like how? I can not hear/talk on the sidekick. The policeman said just to dial 911 and give the emergency agency time to locate through GPS. The policeman said it takes a while for the emegency agency to use GPS to locate us. I was like wow.. okay but long waiting? The policeman said it takes a little while..

Any solution? Let me know
