Thanks alot Grant, but I agree with Lisa C. I plan to use the Relay Service, that way you do not have to worry about where (or which part of the country) you are in.

Most of us do not live in Texas!

Being deaf, we are left to do alot of research so that we are prepared in an emergency while in our cars, or away from home. It is up to the deaf individual to follow through and provide themselves with logical information.

I am 74 years old and just recently purchased my very first Blackberry (Curve) and it took me several weeks to get the darned thing programmed to where I felt comfortable with it. AT&T was a great help, the girls there in the office programmed my Curve for me and I left feeling that I got my money's worth. However, I feel that the big companies, like AT&T, Quest, etc. etc. need to be educated more on the needs of the deaf. After all, we have to pay the full price, whether we get full benefits or not! Those of us who live in small towns (by choice!) have rights too.

(sorry if double post, I think the comments choked)

This is a BAD idea. Police departments vary, but most often, dispatching is run by 911. So they will ask you to call 911 for EVERY TIME an officer needs to show up, be it for a crime or accident report, fire, whatever. If you call the department, they will often tell you to hang up and call 911 instead.
You use the department number ONLY for information.

Yeah, I plan to use the police dept phone number thru the relay service instead of 911 when needed and have it in my Sidekick address book.
