I just want to share my feelings with you. Death of a loved one is a very painful experience. It is something that God never intended for us to feel or to experience. When God created man he meant for him to live forever. But that's not what happened because of Adam's great sin.

But there is good news. Soon God will resurrect all of our loved ones who have died and restore them to life. This is a promise made by His Son, Jesus Christ at John 5:28, 29.

I'm a hearing ESL instructor and do not speak/communicate in ASL. However, I stumbled across this discussion and found it interesting. As a language instructor, I spent 8 years in Korea and one thing that grew to really annoy me there was a similar type of assignment that many Korean students of English were given. They had to find 'a native English speaker' and interview them for homework. Now, Oscar is in Germany where English speakers aren't a visible minority. However, in Korea, it is assumed that white people are English speakers so in some ways there we are a very visible minority like the deaf. Anyway, some weekends I would be subjected to repeated interruptions in my neighborhood where I lived and relaxed by students who had been given an assignment. I thought this was incredibly rude both of the student and the teacher giving the assignment. Sometimes I would try to be patient and give the interview but this is my life, my own time. A couple of times, I was even approached while in a restaurant or cafe. Additionally, parents would sometimes encourage their children to speak to me on the subway or other public space and 'practice their English'. Now, of course, language teaching is my profession and I love it but requiring a 3rd party, in this case the deaf, to participate in some way in a homework assignment is rude and insensitive. If you want a language learner to have a certain experience in a natural setting, then you as the teacher should create that setting so that you can ask permission of all participants, not force it upon anyone else.

I really love the idea of the ASL language table or coffee hour which is the approach that most ESL/EFL programs use whether they are in a ESL context (like the US) or EFL (like Korea). This allows all participants to choose to attend and know what they are getting into rather than relying on the kindness and patience of strangers.

I find the implication that self checkout is only "offered as an option" is a flat out lie. When a Home Depot was built near me, all but 2 of the checkout lanes were set up as self checkout. When I finally gave in and went there for something I needed, while standing in line with only one other person in front of me, I was met by an associate who I thought was going to open up the other register to check me out but instead lead me to the self checkout. I insisted that I did not want to use self checkout, so he ended up trying to show me how easy it was and when my items wouldn't scan correctly, I had to go checkout at the customer service desk. If I had been left alone to be checked out by a person I would have been out of there and on my way a half an hour before I finally made it out of there. Meanwhile there were no less than 5 associates standing around chatting by the self checkout. While I was being checked out at the customer service desk, they continued to pull the same stunt on unsuspecting customers.
I don't know why these sales associates are so eager to render themselves obsolete, but quite frankly, when I go to a gas station, I pay less pump my own gas than I do to have someone else pump it for me, so why would I pay the same price to do the work myself when they have people whose job it is to do that work?

Also, the DARS representative suggested Grant to get an interpreter estimate for the two-day workshop, which he did. Two estimates from two agencies said that it would cost approximately $2,500 and up – it’s expensive because of the weekend which the agencies considered overtime pay. (Ugh!) He also contacted a couple freelance interpreters and got a better deal.

Good move - save a little money
